Jerusalem, December 9, 2024 – The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) will finance the “Supporting Gaza Recovery, Reconstruction, and Development Planning” project with €5 million through a three-year agreement signed by the Consulate General of Italy in Jerusalem, UNDP Office in Jerusalem, and AICS Jerusalem.
The project aims to address Gaza’s post-war recovery needs, including the displacement of nearly 1.9 million people and the destruction of essential infrastructure. In partnership with the Palestinian Authority and implemented by UNDP, it focuses on aligning recovery efforts with national priorities and international standards.
The initiative’s primary goal is to enhance the Palestinian Authority’s capacity to implement a recovery strategy that meets both immediate and long-term needs. The GRRD Gaza Reconstruction Team, operating within the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MoPIC), will lead recovery efforts based on the Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment and Conflict Recovery Framework.
Key outputs include the formation of a skilled team to develop the GRRD Plan, multi-stakeholder engagement, on-the-ground damage assessments, and strengthening MoPIC’s coordination capabilities across ministries and international stakeholders. The project will prioritize dignified living conditions, social cohesion, and robust infrastructure for Gaza’s sustainable future.
