Ramallah, the 10th annual conference of the Public Prosecution was launched, under the title: “Access to Justice Efficent and Effective Services” with the participation of 15 countries, and more than 50 experts and international jurists and funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. In its sessions, the conference will discuss access to justice within the framework of international law and national legislation, complementarity in the provision of justice services, new mechanisms to enhance juvenile justice, implementation of reform measures and programs, alternative punishments and components access to justice.
Consul General of Italy in Jerusalem H.E. Giuseppe Fedele said “Italy has long supported the objective of strengthening the Palestinian judicial system, with the goal of ensuring its compliance with international best practices and standards, despite the multiple challenges judicial Institutions have to face in Palestine. By inviting here some of the most excellent and high-level experts our judicial system has to offer, Italy aims to provide concrete guidance and advise for Palestinian judicial Institutions, also in some very specialized sectors such as juvenile justice, and in this way contribute to their efforts in fulfilling obligations stemming from the international human rights treaties Palestine has acceded to”.
Palestinian Prime Minister Dr. Shtayyeh said: “Enabling citizens to access justice is a sacred thing and it is a right, whether it is access to international courts or national courts, the main goal of the law is to regulate life, society, human nature and the safety of citizens”.
The head of the National and International Institutional Relations Committee of the Italian Supreme Judicial Council, Stefano Cavanna, said that “the conference constitutes an important stage in the development of the relationship between our institutions, and the need to seek to enhance mutual understanding of national, international and professional tools in order to access the best services and train judges and prosecutors”.
The Assistant Public Prosecutor Rita Sanlorenzo confirmed that “the topics that will be raised during the three days of the conference represent a necessary basis for all delegations, invitees and attendees. She indicated that the discussions represent the true measure and a sure guarantee of human rights, and the necessity of enabling all citizens to access a just judiciary while ensuring respect for the principle of equality, preserving human dignity for all groups, and focusing on enhancing care for vulnerable groups”.
The Attorney General of the State of Palestine, Counselor Akram Al-Khatib, welcomed the international delegations participating in the joint conference And He affirmed “the Public Prosecution’s interest in keeping pace with developments, and its constant quest for further expansion and development of its accumulated capabilities and expertise, noting its keenness to decisively implement the rule of law, respect international conventions and charters, and cooperate and integrate with the actors in the justice system; with the aim of enabling it to carry out its constitutional and legal duties; To build a just society in which human rights and freedoms are respected”.
