30 September 2019 – Thanks to a partnership between the Italian Higher Health Institute and the Palestinian Ministry of Health, and with the support of specific technical partners, in the next 3 years a network of hemophilia treatment centers will be established in Palestine to heal congenital hemorrhagic diseases, thalassemia and other hemoglobinopathies.
This is a priority public health problem, not yet adequately addressed in Palestine due to the availability of skilled health personnel and the provision of services. The high costs for the medicines provision, consultations and treatment at Israeli facilities represent a significant budget line for the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
For a total of € 1,799,922, the project activities will involve training of local professionals, technical support and capacity building aimed at establishing a national archive of congenital hematological diseases, defining protocols and diagnostic-therapeutic pathways. It’s worthy to mention the involvement of Italian regions, Emilia Romagna, Umbria, Marche and Tuscany, which will provide concentrations of coagulation factors derived from the processing of Italian plasma, for a trade value of 10.5 million euros.
