The initiative, “Support for the Restoration and Enhancement of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Terra Sancta Museum”, aims to contribute to the extensive restoration work for the conservation of the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre and the development of the Terra Sancta Museum within the Convent of Saint Saviour. Both activities focus on enhancing a site of universal heritage, rich in millennia of history, evidenced by a dense archaeological stratification that connects East and West and represents the vibrant heart of Jerusalem’s Old City.

One of the positive outcomes of the initiative is the creation of new professional opportunities in the fields of restoration, cultural dissemination, and sustainable tourism, with a strong focus on gender equity.

To this end, the initiative promotes training activities aimed at equipping participants with diverse and certified professional skills. In addition to courses specifically related to cultural heritage (e.g., restoration, cataloguing), technological courses (e.g., GIS programs, graphic design, photography) are also offered to provide versatile and transferable competencies.

In this framework, as part of the above-mentioned initiative, Sapienza University of Rome is about to launch the following training courses:

From Field to File: theories and techniques for reading structures and landscape
This course provides both theoretical and practical foundational training for the analysis, survey, and digital representation of architectural structures and landscapes, with a particular focus on the historical and geographical context of Jerusalem. By combining traditional methods with digital tools, participants will acquire the necessary skills for direct and digital surveying, digital modeling, and structural reading to better understand historical architecture and the morphology of the territory.

Archives and libraries between tradition and conservation
Targeted at those beginning their journey into the field of cultural heritage within libraries and archives, this course aims to raise awareness about the importance of cultural heritage and the key role of preventive conservation.

Preserving the Past: Preliminary Techniques in Archaeological Material Diagnostics and Conservation
This course offers an introductory overview of the diagnostics and conservation of archaeological materials. Participants will explore the production cycles of materials from raw substances to finished artifacts delving into each phase and understanding how this knowledge contributes to the conservation process.
