Ramallah, January 26 – The launch of the Procedural Guide on Human Rights and the Prevention of Gender-Based Violence, developed by the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education in partnership with the Palestinian Attorney General’s Office and funded by the Italian Cooperation within the framework of the Amal Project, took place at the National Institute for Educational Training. The event also provided the occasion for the awarding of the winning initiatives implemented under the project, which aims to promote a culture of human rights and gender equality within the Palestinian school system.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Education and Higher Education, Prof. Amjad Barham, the Attorney General, Akram Al-Khatib, and the Head of the AICS Jerusalem Office, Mirko Tricoli, together with deputy undersecretaries, directors general of education, and representatives of the relevant departments. Numerous schools from different districts of the West Bank were present in the hall, with students and teachers coming from Ramallah, Tulkarem, Nablus, and Jericho.

In his remarks, Minister Barham emphasized the importance of institutional partnership in promoting justice and safeguarding students’ rights, reaffirming the right of boys and girls to grow up in a safe and inclusive environment, and highlighting how investment in education represents an essential tool for human development and social protection.

Attorney General Al-Khatib drew attention to the fundamental role of schools in preventing violence, stressing how human development and justice are the pillars of a healthy and safe society. He also recalled the importance of collaboration with the Ministry of Education through the Children’s Club Program and thanked the Italian Cooperation for its constant and long-term support.

The Head of the AICS Jerusalem Office, Mirko Tricoli, confirmed the commitment of the Italian Cooperation to supporting initiatives aimed at promoting human rights, protecting minors, and preventing gender-based violence, highlighting the joint work with Palestinian institutions and underlining the importance of respecting project timelines and implementation modalities.

The event opened with institutional greetings from the Director General of the National Institute for Educational Training, Suheir Al-Qasim, followed by the presentation of the project results by the Monitoring and Evaluation consultant, Alia Al-Tawil. This was followed by the very interesting presentation of the podcast “My Legal Identity,” produced by the student body of the school of the Tulkarm Directorate of Education, featuring artistic contributions and moments of animation.

Among the main results achieved by the Amal Project are professional training activities for educational staff in 18 Directorates of Education, support for 80 school initiatives dedicated to the promotion of human rights and the prevention of gender-based violence, the provision of 28 laptop computers to school staff, and the distribution of 166 tablets to students, girls and boys, awarded for the work carried out during the project.
