Today, May 9, 2024, the study trip to Italy organized as part of the Initiative funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, titled “Be the Impact,” came to a close.
Haliéus, the Legacoop structure for international cooperation, in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO), hosted for one week a delegation composed of representatives from various public institutions, the cooperative sector, and academia. The aim was to strengthen the capacities of the Palestinian cooperative sector through the exchange of experiences and best practices with their Italian counterparts.
The study trip focused on ways to address the main challenges faced by the Palestinian cooperative movement, including legal and institutional barriers, governance and management issues, and a general lack of awareness about cooperative work among the Palestinian population, especially among the youth.
During the mission, participants had the opportunity to engage with one of the most well-established cooperative ecosystems in the world, the Italian one, and explore the strategies adopted over the years to address challenges in areas such as cooperative education, governance, and financing mechanisms. Particular attention was given to women’s empowerment, youth inclusion, and digitalization.
With the support of Legacoop, Palestinian representatives were able to connect with some of the most representative cooperatives in sectors most relevant to the delegation, including social, agricultural, and digital innovation cooperatives, as well as with leading Italian academic institutions offering training in these areas.
The final workshop, held at the Legacoop offices, provided an additional opportunity for dialogue, allowing participants to build on the Italian experiences and create synergies among the various stakeholders involved, with the goal of establishing solid and lasting collaborative relationships between the cooperative movements of the two countries.
The end.
