19 May – An awareness-raising initiative entitled “Human Rights and Gender: Towards a Safe and Responsible Digital University Environment” was held at the campus of An-Najah National University in Nablus. The event was organized within the framework of the Human Rights and Gender course established through the AMAL – Human Rights and Gender Equality project, supported by the Italian Cooperation and implemented in collaboration with the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) and the Palestinian Public Prosecution.
The event brought together students, academics, and representatives of partner institutions, fostering a broad discussion on equality and the protection of human rights.
The initiative forms part of the wider efforts promoted by the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education to strengthen the dissemination of human rights principles, equality, and gender equity across Palestinian universities. In this context, students are encouraged to translate the theoretical knowledge acquired through their studies into concrete actions capable of addressing contemporary social challenges.
Particular attention was devoted to issues related to digital violence, justice and prevention, as well as mechanisms for the protection of victims. Discussions also focused on promoting the values of equity and inclusion and fostering informed dialogue both within and beyond the academic environment.
During the event, participants highlighted the importance of the Human Rights and Gender course as a key tool for promoting a culture based on dialogue, justice, and equality. The programme is currently implemented in five Palestinian universities and is expected to expand further during the next academic year.
The initiative also underscored An-Najah University’s commitment to encouraging students’ active engagement in legal and social issues, while strengthening cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to build a more participatory and inclusive university environment.
