Jericho, 24 November – AICS Jerusalem warmly welcomes the announcement by the Palestinian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities of the completion of the Administrative and Conservation Management Plan for the Tell es-Sultan (Ancient Jericho) World Heritage Site, an essential milestone in safeguarding one of the oldest archaeological sites in human history.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Mr. Hani Al-Hayek, during a ceremony held at the Ein Sultan archaeological site. The event gathered key Palestinian and international stakeholders, including Dr. Hussein Hamayel, Governor of Jericho; Mr. Eid Kareem Seder, Mayor of Jericho; Mr. George Joseph, UNESCO Representative in Palestine; Mr. Mirco Tricoli, Director of AICS Jerusalem; and Mr. Roman Diyesky, Director of the Russian Museum.

As a longstanding partner in the protection of Palestinian cultural heritage, AICS has supported several initiatives implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, contributing to the preservation and sustainable development of heritage sites across the West Bank.

This achievement follows the successful inscription of Tell es-Sultan on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2023. The newly completed management plan will serve as a strategic and operational tool to ensure the site’s long-term protection, conservation, and responsible development.

The Italian Cooperation remains firmly committed to supporting the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage in Palestine. Through ongoing collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, AICS continues to contribute to concrete and meaningful results on the ground.
