Dura, 5 August 2026 – The new Breast Cancer Early Detection Center was inaugurated at the Dura Governmental Hospital, in the Hebron Governorate. The Center was established by the World Health Organization (WHO) with the support of the Italian Cooperation and in collaboration with the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The initiative contributes to strengthening cancer prevention and diagnostic services in Palestine, expanding access to essential healthcare services for women in the Hebron Governorate. Breast cancer is among the most common forms of cancer affecting Palestinian women, and early detection is crucial to improving treatment outcomes.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by representatives of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the AICS Jerusalem Office, the World Health Organization (WHO), local authorities, and the management of Dura Governmental Hospital.

The intervention included the renovation of the spaces dedicated to the new Center, the provision of diagnostic equipment, and the training of healthcare personnel. As part of the initiative, a radiologist and an oncology nurse completed a specialized training programme at the King Hussein Cancer Center in Jordan, contributing to the enhancement of the quality of diagnostic services.

The project is part of the long-standing cooperation between the Italian Cooperation and the Palestinian healthcare system. Dura Governmental Hospital, built with the support of the Italian Cooperation and completed in 2021, represents an important investment in strengthening healthcare services in the southern West Bank.

The opening of the new Center brings specialized services closer to the population, facilitating access to early breast cancer diagnosis for women in the Hebron Governorate and reducing the need to travel to more distant healthcare facilities. The project also includes awareness-raising activities aimed at promoting prevention, encouraging access to breast cancer early detection services, and increasing awareness of the importance of timely diagnosis.

the End.
